We needed an extra base for my sister who watches my daughter and it works exactly like the base that came with our travel system. According to our local consignment shops, they are not allowed to sell used bases anymore, so if you need an extra base for a Graco SnugRide Travel System, this is what you want to get.
Solid Extra Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat Base
My wife and I bought an extra snugride infant car seat base for my mother-in-law so that it would be easier to transport our daughter for babysitting. It works great. The only complaint that I have about it, is that it is hard to get it really firmly in place. We took ours to the local fire department and they showed us how to do it properly. I definitely recommend going to the local fire or police department even if you think you know what you are doing. Basically you have to contort your body and put your knee in the middle of the base (not too comfortable) in order to weight down the base as you tighten the seat belt or latch system. I have an older car so we attached the base using the seatbelt which works great. My in laws have the latch system and they also don’t have a problem. I don’t think you can go wrong with Graco.
The actual car seat/infant carrier is a bit heavy especially now with a 4 month old, but I think it’s better to have a sturdy seat and a little exercise than a flimsy seat that isn’t safe.
More rides for less money
I have a Snugride carseat for my infant, but 3 vehicles for him to ride in. This base is exactly the same as the one that came with the seat, so it fits any vehicle with any type of hookup. Now grandma and grandpa have a base in their car too. AND, with the latch system, I hooked this up in less than 2 minutes. Grandpa didn’t like where it was it, so he moved it just as easily with no problems. It’s so much easier than trying to strap in the seat by itself every time. Plus, this base is by far one of the easiest to take a carseat in & out of. I would definitely buy one for every vehicle.
A must have
The Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat Base is a wonderful infant car seat, allowing for securing the child in the seat within the comfort of air-conditioning or indoor heat, depending on the season. It pops right into the base in seconds, allowing for getting the child in the car quickly to avoid prolonged exposure to the weather. If you own a Graco SnugRide and have 2 cars, it also really comes in handy to have an extra base. Not all SnugRides have the same base color, so be sure to note which color the plastic is on the carseat before choosing the color for the extra base unit.
Great and convenient product : Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat Base
This does what you want it to do, not much to it. However, I discovered one gotcha: in placing the infant carrier in the base- as opposed to just securing the carrier in the car without the base, the carrier sits higher and further forward when it’s in the base. This was problematic for us cause those few extra inches now force the driveer (or, now passenger) move their seat forward. This obviously only applies to smaller cars. Without the base the carrier just fit in and no moving was necessary.
