Britax Chaperone Infant Car Seat (Savannah)True Side Impact Protection for Advanced Security
The Chaperone Infant Car Seat is ideal for parents concerned with providing proper safety and posture-support for their children during car rides. Offering True Side Impact Protection, this seat delivers superior protection if you happen to face an unexpected side-impact accident.

If such an event takes place, the solid head support and deep, side walls work efficiently to distribute crash forces and keep your child shielded and contained. The seat's design also helps the head, neck, and spine stay properly aligned, keeping your child in a comfortable, safe posture during impact.

For additional safety, the built-in anti-rebound bar stabilizes the car seat by minimizing forces that can rotate the car seat during impact. The energy-absorbing foam liner provides additional support and distributes crash forces away from your child.

Superior Comfort and Fit
For growing babies, the tangle-free, five-point harness offers seven harness heights and two buckle positions for a snug, custom fit. The Chaperone Infant Car Seat features a plush, premium cover set with matching belly pad, while the underlying comfort foam provides support for your child's body. The car seat includes an extra-large canopy that blocks wind, rain, and harmful UV rays from your baby's sensitive skin. These features make for a comfortable ride, even during long car trips.

Easy-to-Install and Adjust
With lower LATCH connectors, compatible with most current vehicles, the Chaperone Infant Car Seat allows for quick, easy installation. The premium, push-button system provides a tight, secure fit and makes it simple to install or remove. The built-in lock-off feature secures your vehicle's safety belt so that the car seat does not move more than one inch side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path, while the easy-to-read level indicators guide you to the proper angle of recline.

The quick-adjust head restraint and no-rethread harness allow you to easily adjust the harness system without the need to rethread the entire harness--a valuable time saving feature. Plus, with the recline-adjustment knob you can quickly adjust the height of the base for proper seat angle and positioning.

Compatible with Strollers and Ergonomic Design
With convenience and comfort in mind, the Chaperone Infant Car Seat is compatible with the Chaperone Stroller to form a travel system, along with other major strollers, when used with the Britax Adapter Strap Kit. The car seat's handle is ergonomically designed and contours to your forearm and body so you can carry your baby in the Chaperone with ease.

Easy-to-Clean Fabric
The Chaperone Infant Car Seat is designed with a cover that removes easily for cleaning. It is available in three distinct styles--Savannah, Red Mill, and Cowmooflage.

The Chaperone Infant Car Seat is backed by a limited one-year warranty.

Nice Carrier, still needs a little improvement

Reviewer: Sun Devil #1 Fan,
Just received my Britax Chaperone infant carrier from Amazon (pre-ordered on April 30th). My wife and I were pretty excited to get this in time for an anticipated late June baby.

As expected, the carrier seems to be made in a higher quality attention to detail than most. As an owner of a Graco SafeSeat infant car seat, I'd say that Britax made an effort to emulate convenient features around the industry with quality materials & workmanship.

Pros:
-Safety features such as anti-rebound bar & side impact protection. If you're trying to compare apples to apples, this is where Britax sets themselves apart.
-Quality construction/materials like a Peg Perego and better quality than Chicco KeyFit 30 or Graco SafeSeat/SnugRide product. The difference is attention to detail & density or significance of materials used. The LATCH mechanism on my Chaperone v. SafeSeat is a prime example. Same function, nicer mechanism. Another example would be the strap required to cinch down the base. Nicely thought out with a loop to pull on.
-Oversized sun shade
-Fashionable and soft yet sturdy appearing fabrics (we'll see how they hold up). Replacements are available & registering your seat online is supposed to yield a 40% coupon off replacement parts. The coupon email is supposed to come up to a few weeks after submitting online registration.

Cons:
-HIDDEN INSTRUCTION MANUAL. After calling Britax, I found out the instruction manual is permanently affixed to a bungee lanyard UNDER the seating foam (which is under the fabric). They say that they've been nationally recognized for this ingenuity. As much as this is great for always having the manual with the seat, I had no idea it was there. A callout would be nice.
-Price, I'm not sure this is going to be any better functioning than our Graco infant carrier. The extra base is $90 alone. I'd sooner buy a $100 Graco SafeSeat (they're out there on the web) for the 2nd vehicle.
-That nice oversized sunshade is kinda flimsy at the point it connects to the carrier. At least not seemingly as well made as the rest of the carrier. On par with Graco. I do appreciate the velcro tabs to hold the sunshade to top of the carrier.
-Size, this is a big seat. We knew that going in. I just don't see this seat being very easy to install in the center position of a smaller car. My standard size SUV seems to be pushing the boundries of ability to fit.
-Needs more cowbell! Just a small quip. My wife noted and I agree the cowmooflage pattern could use a litle more pattern and less use of black fabric.

Overall:
You get what you pay for in terms of fashion, materials, & attention to ergonomics. It really depends what type of consumer you are & maybe how big your car is. I was willing to pay for the perceived extra quality, peace of mind safety features, & fashionable Cowmooflage pattern.

My first impression is that I'd buy this seat again but, think families could probably do just fine under budget constraints with a similar Graco SnugRide 32 or Chicco KeyFit 30 product. This seat is more of a threat to Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 30/30 in terms of price/quality. More patterns like Cowmooflage and they'll an advantage over Peg as well.
I need more COWBELL!

Ok...
I also keep thinking... Give me more COWBELL... just like the last reviewer... This seat so far seems great... Granted my babes is due any day and it hasn't been utilized in real life. Let me note right off... the MANUAL is located under the child seat cover. Britax always stores their manuals in this place... but it should be noted somewhere obvious for people new to Britax seats. They are going to get a TON of calls/complaints about this... as everyone is going to think they are missing their manual.

I have been waiting for this seat for the last few months... I am happy it made it's appearence before my baby did. I love the Cowmoo print... although I am sure not everyone will. I was hoping the fabric would be more "plush" like the Britax Convertible Toddler Seats... but it's not. It's kind of a "slick poplin" of sorts. The good thing is it is NOT that plasticky crap found on a lot of other infant seats. I could not bring myself to buy a seat with fabric like that... I tried one with my last baby and her head would sweat constantly... It looked uncomfortable and I hated it. The whole seat must have been so hot... So this Britax fabric is a big upgrade...

The chest plate is refined and easy to use... The grow with me "no re-thread" harness system is awesome... Just click it up a notch as baby grows.....Anti rebound bar sets it apart from other infant seats... Also I agree that this seat is big. We have it placed in a Honda Odyssey... There is zero room for entry around the seat once the seat is installed. There is room to get thru to back seats as long as the base is installed only. Canopy is large and I like the velcro that helps keep it in place.
Side impact headrests are firmer than I would have expected. I imagine it has to be this way... but I was expecting something a little more "cushiony".

At this point there are nothing unfortunate to note. I'm glad I waited for this seat... It's at the top of my budget but I imagine resale will be decent. I haven't decided whether I'll get the coordinating stroller system but I am looking forward to seeing it (release late July/Aug).

Update: Two months later my little one has been using the Britax carrier now for 8 weeks. I have to say that I am completely happy with this seat. She falls asleep in this sleep and loves it. My last seat was a nightmare and my babes would scream from the moment she entered it. Not sure if it was the seat or my baby... but either way this seat is a delight. Yep, it's big and deep but fits a big baby and last a long time, so I am not complaining. I am thinking I will purchase the stroller when they are released since baby likes the seat so much. I've gotten so many compliments on the Cow print... I love that the handle bar can stay in the upright position during travel (according to the manual). So far after having 5 kids... this seat is by far my favorite... wish it would last forever.
Love it!

I HIGHLY recommend this seat!

Knowing that this seat was entering the market only days before our due date, we crossed our fingers and held out hoping our timing would work out. We gave away our last infant carrier after our daughter graduated from it because she hated it so much and luckily we received this carrier just days before our son arrived. We couldn't be more thrilled that we waited.

Yes, this seat is big but that is to be expected with a 30 pound weight limit. We have it installed outboard on the passenger side in both vehicles (VW Passat and Nissan Pathfinder) and have no problems. Sure, the passenger seat is a little closer to the dashboard than I would like, but it's not too close. The seat would likely fit even better in the center, but I prefer to keep a little distance between the baby and our very loving 2 year old. The baby needs a break from all of the petting!

Unlike our previous infant carrier, this seat is a hit with the baby. He falls asleep almost as soon as he is strapped in. Car rides and shopping trips are a breeze with this carrier. The curvature of the handle makes it easy to slip my arm through to carry but keeps the baby parallel to the ground unlike the semi-circle handles of other carriers. The sunshade on this carrier is fabulous as well! I have not run into an instance yet where I can't extend the shade far enough to shade his eyes while sleeping. Combined with the stroller shade, I can keep light out from all directions - like a little coccoon.

The safety aspect of this carrier is great too. I love the Side Impact Protection in the head wings. Although he only rides with Mom and Dad at this point, I will much better about allowing him to ride with others in the future. The non-rethread harness also prevents mistakes when adjusting the harness height.

I am very pleased with this carrier and will likely keep him in it for a long time to come. His sister graduated to a convertible as soon as she fit properly (harness at or below the shoulder for rear-facing) but he will likely stay until we no longer need the carrier aspect (sitting on own, etc). That will be a sad day...

After seeing the video online from the NTSB showing infant car seats flipping over on the Chicago Tribune website, I was very nervous about getting a car seat for my little guy. I waited for this new Britax to come along and it was well worth the wait. I know the seat is larger than most. I am glad after spending this kind of money on an infant car seat that it will last until he is nearly a year old. I have in the back seat of my Volvo and we can fit a normal sized adult in the front seat just fine. In fact we are going on a long trip and will have either my husband or myself in the seat in front of our boy for most of the ride. Our son loves the seat and I am comforted by the side impact cushions that support his head...it worked even for a less than seven pound infant on the way home from the hospital. We have already had to move the seat belt up a couple of notches and it is nice to know we have more room to grow.

The seat is heavy and I am just viewing that as an opportunity to work on my arm muscles. I chose this car seat because it seemed to be the safest on the market when we were purchasing and that was the most important factor for us. I would recommend this seat If safety is your most important priority.
Lovely, but too long for a Subaru Outback

Because we love our Britax forward-facing toddler seat, we bought the Chaperone. There is no way to fit it in the back seat of a Subaru and have an adult fit in the front seat space, without totally squishing the adult into the dashboard. We had to return it!!
